Choose C2 Pro for a compact, budget-conscious setup. Choose C3 Ultra when greater rigidity and more usable workspace are your priorities.
Both stands are available with 60 cm or 78 cm columns. The difference is not simply height or film format: it is how the stand is built, how much working space it provides and how stable a platform you want for your workflow.
C2 Pro uses a 40 × 40 mm aluminum column with 2 mm walls, supported by three aluminum angle brackets. C3 Ultra uses a 40 × 40 mm column with 3 mm walls and a one-piece CNC-machined 6061 aluminum connection block. This more rigid construction provides a more stable platform.
C3 Ultra also has a larger base. Its connection block occupies less space behind the working area, leaving more room for your film holder, light source and positioning adjustments.
| Feature | C2 Pro | C3 Ultra |
|---|---|---|
| Column height | 60 cm or 78 cm | 60 cm or 78 cm |
| Column profile | 40 × 40 mm Euro-standard aluminum profile | 40 × 40 mm Euro-standard heavy-wall aluminum profile |
| Wall thickness | 2 mm | 3 mm — 50% thicker |
| Column-to-base connection | Three extruded-aluminum angle brackets | One-piece CNC-machined 6061 aluminum block |
| Anodized aluminum base | 320 × 280 × 8 mm | 380 × 280 × 8 mm |
| Approximate usable base area | 210 × 280 mm | 310 × 280 mm — approximately 50% more space |
| Recommended stand load | Up to 5 kg | Up to 5 kg |
| Feet | Standard round silicone feet | Hemispherical vibration-damping silicone feet |
| Vibration settling time at 78 cm | Approximately 3–5 seconds | Less than 1 second |
| Typical base head configuration | Dual-sided clamp + panoramic base — left/right rotational alignment; pitch is adjusted at the film holder’s leveling plate | VTP Leveling Head — left/right rotational alignment and pitch adjustment |
The 5 kg recommendation applies to the stand; the selected head may have a lower recommended load. Settling times vary with the mounted setup and operating conditions. Head configurations above are references, not a promise of included equipment: select your preferred version when ordering. Stand Only includes a dual-sided clamp but no head.
The C3 Ultra upgrades work together: a heavier-wall column, a more substantial column-to-base connection and vibration-damping feet. The result is a more rigid platform with more usable space for your scanning equipment.
The 40 × 40 mm column has 3 mm walls instead of C2 Pro’s 2 mm walls—a 50% increase in wall thickness. The heavier-wall profile improves rigidity, particularly when the camera is mounted higher on the column. Wall thickness is a construction measurement, not a claim of a fixed percentage increase in stiffness.
Instead of three separate angle brackets, C3 Ultra uses a connector machined from a solid block of 6061 aluminum. The block measures 120 × 65 × 80 mm, with a 40 × 40 mm recess approximately 70 mm deep to support the column.
Six screws secure the column from the left, right and rear, while four M6 screws attach the connector to the base plate. This substantial connection helps resist movement where the column meets the base.
The connector uses 15 mm walls on three sides around the column and a 10 mm wall on the remaining side. This variable-thickness design supports the connection while keeping its footprint compact. Combined with the larger base, it leaves approximately 310 × 280 mm of usable workspace, compared with approximately 210 × 280 mm on C2 Pro.
Four hemispherical silicone feet provide grip and help dissipate vibration at the base. A stand can move briefly after a touch and still settle quickly; what matters for capture is allowing movement to stop before releasing the shutter.
The supplied 78 cm comparison reports approximately 3–5 seconds of settling for C2 Pro and less than 1 second for C3 Ultra. These are reference observations, not guaranteed timings: the camera, lens, head, work surface and the way the stand is disturbed all affect settling.
You want a practical everyday camera-scanning setup, your holder and light fit comfortably within the available working area, and you would rather keep more of your budget for a lens, holder or light source.
You prioritize rigidity, use a larger holder or light, or want more room for positioning and repeated adjustments. It is the stronger choice when a spacious, stable platform matters more than minimizing the stand cost.
This is not a strict “35mm versus large-format” split. Either stand can be part of a 35mm, 120 or 4×5 workflow, provided your camera, lens, holder and light fit the required setup.
Choose column height around your camera and lens, the magnification you need, and the height of the holder and light. The 78 cm version provides more vertical room, but a larger film format does not automatically require a taller stand. Check the working distance of your intended setup before choosing.
